Some automobile accidents (and other accidents which involve striking the head or violently shaking the head) result in a very serious injury that often goes untreated. A traumatic brain injury (TBI) results when the brain is shaken inside the skull. TBIs can result even when the accident appears to be relatively minor. TBIs are often untreated because they are undiagnosed. If you have any of the following symptoms you must be sure to bring them to your doctor’s attention so that you may be promptly evaluated and treated.
Symptoms of TBI include:
- Dilated pupils
- Loss of consciousness/confusion
- Changes in vision (blurred vision, seeing double, intolerance of bright light)
- Dizziness or difficulty balancing
- Respiratory failure
- Coma
- Paralysis and trouble moving parts of the body
- Poor coordination
- Slowed pulse and breathing rate
- Vomiting
- Tinnitus
- Cognitive thought problems/difficulty with memory
- Loss of bowel or bladder control
- Unexplained emotional outbursts
- Seizures
- Vertigo
- Change in sleep patterns
Traumatic brain injuries are serious and should not be left unchecked or uncompensated. If you feel you have suffered a traumatic brain injury, please be sure to make an appointment with a doctor and speak with a lawyer before accepting any settlement for your injuries. Our firm has represented clients on traumatic brain injury cases and has achieved successful results for the victims and their families. In one of our most recent cases, we obtained a settlement of $2.4 million in a traumatic brain injury case personally handled by Mona Lisa Wallace, with assistance from Lea Keller and the Personal Injury practice team.
This case arose out of a motorcycle accident resulting in severe injuries including facial fractures and a traumatic brain injury. Our client was riding in a motorcycle when he was struck by a woman in a van. He was in the hospital for over a month after the accident.
After extensive litigation, we reached a settlement on the personal injury claim. While often the firm and its clients may agree to a confidentiality provision as part of a settlement, in this case the clients did not agree to the confidentiality provision. The civil settlement amount in this case was for $2.4 million.
We are pleased with this result for our client.
Of course, not every case will result in a settlement or judgment for the plaintiff. Each case will be determined on its own specific factual and legal circumstances.
If you believe you may have a personal injury claim, feel free to call us at 800-849-5291 or contact Mona Wallace at mwallace@wallacegraham.com.
