Asbestos & Mesothelioma

Our attorneys have years of experience in handling asbestos and mesothelioma claims. Asbestos fibers can harm individuals if it is inhaled. Unfortunately, there is no known safe exposure level for asbestos. Further, the more a person is exposed to asbestos, the greater a chance that he or she will develop an asbestos-related disease. These diseases can include:

  • Asbestosis
  • Mesothelioma
  • Lung cancer
  • Stomach cancer
  • Intestinal cancer
  • Bowel or rectal cancer

Asbestosis is a disease involving a scarring of the lungs that can lead to breathing problems and other ailments. Individuals who have been involved in jobs that required the handling, use or manufacturing of asbestos or asbestos-containing products have a greater risk of having asbestosis.

Asbestosis is a slow, progressive disease. The first signs of an asbestos-related disease may develop as late as 20 to 30 years after the initial exposure to asbestos.

Asbestos itself is a natural mineral made up of crystals that form fibers. In past years, asbestos was often used to make products that were fire-resistant and could insulate from heat. Thus, asbestos-containing materials are often found around manufacturing and industrial environments.

When inhaled, asbestos fibers can become lodged in the lungs. Asbestos fibers can cause damage to the lungs and this leads to asbestos-related illnesses.

Malignant mesothelioma is one of the most serious of all the asbestos-related diseases. Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer in which malignant cells are found in the lining of the chest or the abdomen. Virtually all cases of malignant mesothelioma are attributable to asbestos exposure.
